About Solitaire
Solitaire is a family of one-player card games, also called patience. This page plays Klondike, a familiar form with seven working piles, a stock, a waste pile, and four suit foundations. Patience card games are documented in Europe from the late 1700s. The name Klondike is commonly linked to the Canadian gold rush of the 1890s. The challenge here is to turn hidden cards face up and build every suit from Ace through King.
How to play
Each tableau pile starts with one more card than the pile before it, and only its top card is face up. Build downward in alternating red and black suits. You can move a face-up run together when the cards already follow that order. An empty tableau pile accepts only a King or a run starting with a King. Move Aces to the foundations, then build each foundation upward by suit. A foundation card can come back to the tableau if that opens a better path. When a move uncovers a hidden card, it turns face up automatically.
Tap or click a card to send it to a useful legal pile; tap a card in the middle of a run to move that run. Drag and release over a destination to choose it yourself. Tap the stock to draw. Draw 1 turns one card, while Draw 3 turns up to three; only the top waste card is playable. When the stock empties, tap it again to recycle the waste. You may cycle it as often as needed. On a keyboard, use the arrows to focus piles and Enter to act, Space to draw, U to undo, H for a hint, A to finish when available, and N for a new game.
Tips
Try to expose face-down cards before making tidy-looking moves elsewhere. Empty a pile when you have a King ready to fill it. Do not rush every card to the foundations: a card there may still help you arrange a tableau run. Draw 1 makes more stock cards immediately accessible; Draw 3 asks you to think further ahead about which waste cards will surface. Undo is unlimited, so you can test a line of play and return to an earlier choice.
